Connecting Xero — what auto-pulls and what doesn't

What Zato pulls from Xero automatically, and what your team still needs to export and upload manually.

What auto-pulls from Xero

Once connected via OAuth 2.0, Zato can automatically pull:

  • Trial Balance

  • Chart of Accounts

  • Client information

  • Manual Journals

What still needs manual export

These must be exported from Xero and uploaded manually to the Ledger data source:

Documents

Notes

Aged Payables

End of financial year — include Outstanding GST column

Aged Receivables

End of financial year — include Outstanding GST column

Depreciation Schedule

Full schedule from Xero

General Ledger — current year

Group by Account Code and Name, opening and closing balances

General Ledger — previous year

Same configuration

GST GL

Filtered to GST codes, current financial year

IRD, Companies Office, and bank documents are covered separately — see the Integrations collection.

How to connect Xero

  1. Go to Firm Setup → Tab 7

  2. Click the Xero icon

  3. Enter your Xero credentials and click Allow Access

  4. Clients fetch automatically with CoA and Trial Balance

Common mistakes

  • Assuming the full GL pulls automatically — it does not

  • Connecting with a personal Xero login instead of the firm account
