Dividend Income workpaper
How the Dividend Income workpaper combines dividends from ATO Prefills, related entities and the client, and checks franking credits.
The Dividend Income workpaper brings together dividend information from three sources: ATO Prefills, related entities and client-provided information. It calculates unfranked dividends, franked dividends, franking credits and TFN withholding.
Data extraction
ATO Prefills: the following values are brought in from the ATO Prefills workpaper:
• Unfranked dividend
• Franked dividend
• Franking credits
Related entity dividends
For each dividend from a related entity, record:
• Company
• Date
• Unfranked dividend
• Franked dividend
• Franking credits
• TFN withholding
Client-provided dividends
Enter any dividends the client has provided that are not included in ATO Prefills.
Calculations
• Total Dividend = Unfranked + Franked for each dividend.
• The franking percentage is calculated from the dividend and franking credit amounts.
Note: If there is a franked amount and the franking percentage is not 30% or 25%, the workpaper shows "Check amount of franking credits".
Totals
Separate totals are calculated for unfranked dividends, franked dividends, franking credits and TFN withholding. The overall totals combine all three sources:
Total = ATO Prefills + Related Entity + Client Provided
The combined dividend amounts and franking credits flow to the ITR Summary.
