I cannot access a section or feature

How permissions work in Zato and what to do when you cannot access a feature you expected to.

Zato uses Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). Each user is assigned a role (Level 1 to Level 6) which determines what they can see and do within the platform.

1. Check your role level

Your firm administrator can confirm your role level in Firm Setup, then Permissions and Users. Common patterns:

  • Level 1 (Admin): Full access to all features.
  • Level 4 (Accountant): Can run automation, prepare workpapers, raise queries.
  • Level 5 (Manager): Can review and approve workpapers and submitted jobs.
  • Level 6 (Director): Can sign off completed jobs.

2. Check the access restriction callout

Some screens display an orange callout at the top indicating access is restricted. Read this carefully to confirm the required role level.

3. Request a permission change

If you believe you should have access to a feature, ask your firm administrator to review your role assignment in Permissions and Users.

4. Module-level access

Even within a single role, individual permissions can be turned on or off. Your administrator can fine-tune these without changing your overall role level.
