Workpaper features — supporting docs, sections & editing

How to manage supporting documents, add sections, edit workpapers, and use carry forward and prior year views.

Supporting documents

  • View, upload, or delete files relevant to a specific workpaper.
  • Files are automatically aligned with GL accounts. Use search and filter for manual remapping.
  • Move or copy documents between different workpapers.
  • Select files and click Extract to trigger data extraction from new uploads.

General Ledger documents are view-only and cannot be deleted.

Add Section (multi-section workpapers)

When a section was empty at the time of extraction or was later zeroed out, you can add it without re-running automation:

  1. Open the workpaper and click the section dropdown at the top-right.
  2. Click + Add Section at the bottom of the dropdown.
  3. For parent or alias-based workpapers: search and select from the dropdown. For manual workpapers: type the section name.
  4. Click Add.

Sections already visible are excluded from the dropdown to prevent duplication. Previously hidden sections appear with a (hidden) tag.

Editing workpapers

  • Click Edit to unlock editable fields. Automation is temporarily paused during editing.
  • Click Save — Zato uses live computation, so changes reflect across all related workpapers immediately.
  • An Unsaved Changes prompt alerts you if you try to navigate without saving.

Advanced options

  • Carry Forward: Roll over workpaper structure, notes, and pinned references to the next financial year.
  • Last Year's Workpaper: Opens the prior year's file in a split-screen view for side-by-side comparison.
