A workpaper figure looks wrong

Step-by-step approach to investigating and correcting figures that appear incorrect on a workpaper.

If a figure on a workpaper does not look right, work through these checks to identify the source of the discrepancy.

1. Check the data source

Each workpaper draws from specific data sources. Open the workpaper's reference article (in the Workpaper Reference collection) to see exactly which source feeds which field. Verify that source is uploaded and current.

2. Check the Chart of Accounts (CoA) mapping

If the workpaper is summing accounts incorrectly, an account may be mapped to the wrong parent. Go to Job Setup and review CoA Mapping for the relevant accounts.

3. Check related workpapers

Many workpapers pull data from other workpapers. The reference article for each workpaper has a Related Workpapers section showing which others feed into it. If the source workpaper is wrong, the dependent workpaper will also be wrong.

4. Check for missing manual journals

An adjustment may not have been posted. Open the workpaper and review the journal entries listed. Use + Add New Journal if an entry is missing.

5. Check for auto-triggered journals

Some workpapers (e.g. Stock on Hand, Work in Progress, Entertainment) auto-create journals based on prior-period data. The auto-triggered figure may need to be edited and validated against current client information.

6. Re-run automation if data has changed

If you have updated source data, mappings, or thresholds since the last automation run, click Run Zato to refresh all calculations.
