Custom Workpapers
Adding a workpaper outside Zato's standard set.
Zato generates a standard set of workpapers automatically based on Chart of Accounts mapping and uploaded data. A Manual Workpaper is used when an engagement needs something outside that standard set.
When to use a Manual Workpaper
● A client has a specific schedule or calculation that no standard workpaper covers.
● You want to bring in an existing spreadsheet template your firm already uses.
● You need a reference document or supporting schedule attached to the job's workpaper set.
Creating a Manual Workpaper
1. Open the job and go to Workpapers, under Job Results.
2. Click the + icon at the top of the workpaper list.
3. Complete Description (the name shown in the list, be specific, this is how it's identified during review and sign-off), Workpaper Group (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income, or Expenses), and Spreadsheet Type.
4. For Spreadsheet Type, choose Create a Blank to open a blank spreadsheet within Zato, or Upload a Spreadsheet to import an existing Excel file (.xlsx or .xls).
5. Click Save. The workpaper appears immediately in the list under the selected group.
Working with a Manual Workpaper
Once created, a Manual Workpaper behaves like any other workpaper in the review workflow: supporting documents can be added, notes or queries can be raised, and it's approved as part of the standard review and sign-off process.
A Manual Workpaper does not connect to GL or CoA data; all content is entered manually or brought in through the spreadsheet import.
Identifying and deleting a Manual Workpaper
Manual Workpapers are shown in a distinct colour in the workpaper list, so they're easily told apart from standard workpapers. Standard workpapers cannot be modified or deleted. A Manual Workpaper can be deleted at any time it's no longer needed.
A Manual Workpaper created this way is available at job level only. To make one available for every client across the firm, add it in Workpaper Studio instead.
