Other Current Liabilities workpaper (OCL)

How OCL is populated, and the debit/credit sign convention that applies on the liability side.

The Other Current Liabilities (OCL) workpaper reconciles balances for current liability accounts that do not have their own dedicated workpaper. Each mapped account code gets its own section.

Data extraction

Account Code is picked from the General Ledger for codes with an account type of Current Liability that are not covered by another workpaper.

Description is the account name from the General Ledger with "- As per General Ledger" appended.

Amount is the closing balance of the account code from the General Ledger. On the liability side, the sign convention is the reverse of an asset workpaper: a debit closing balance is shown as negative, and a credit closing balance is shown as positive.

Note: This is the opposite convention to OAS, where a debit closing balance is shown as positive. It is easy to carry the asset-side rule across by habit when working through both workpapers on the same job, worth double-checking which one you are in.

Supporting attaches the account code ledger detail, or any document categorised as an Other Current Liability, this may also be the source for a later manual journal entry.

Section structure

Each account code has its own section, with an option to select multiple account codes and combine them into a single section (heading left blank in that case). Use the toggle to switch between all sections and only unreconciled sections.

Manual journals

Any journal posted to a mapped account code appears in that section as a new line item.
