Livestock Reconciliation workpaper (LST)
How LST tracks livestock numbers and values by category, sourced from prior-year published financials and current-year GL detail.
The Livestock Reconciliation (LST) workpaper reconciles livestock numbers and values by category (Cattle, Sheep, Rams, Pigs, Alpacas, Goats, Horses) across the year, covering opening stock, purchases, and sales.
Opening stock
Taken from the prior year's published financial statements. The livestock schedule within those financials is read category by category (matched against the keyword list above), picking up the closing quantity and closing dollar value for each as this year's opening position.
Purchases and sales
● Purchase amount and Sales amount: from the detailed General Ledger, the running balance of accounts named Purchases, [category] or Sales, [category] (for example, Purchases, Cattle).
● Purchase quantity and Sales quantity: preferably taken from client-provided livestock detail where the client has separately stated head counts. Where that's not available, the quantity is instead read out of the GL transaction description itself, extracting the numeric head count and ignoring anything that's actually an invoice number. Where no usable quantity can be found in the description either, the system shows Human Intervention Required rather than leaving it blank unexplained.
